Week 2.5

Because I am visiting Rome this week, I have been unable to visit a beach for Week 3's assignment. However, I didn't want this opportunity to share a couple of photographs to go to waste. When I return home in a couple of days, I will properly post Week #3's pictures. Until then...

Neighborhood Alley

Altar of the Fatherland

Busy Street Corner

Colosseum at Night

Colosseum Through the Trees

Tree Tops

  1. Wow, these are spectacular, Gordon. I have to ask, are these shot with an iPhone 11 pro? Shooting at night is notoriously difficult. The dynamic range is beyond the ability of a digital sensor to capture it all in one shot. An advanced technique is to sake several shots of the dark, medium and light areas then combine them into one. New phone cams like the Iphone 11 or the Pixel 3 and now Pixel 4 do this automatically. Please share then how you are doing these.

Starting at the bottom, the tree tops are wonderful in terms of the light and clarity of form. They fill the frame in a wonderful way. The Colosseum through the trees has wonderful illumination coming from within and the wet pavement reflects the street lights beautifully. The dark (but not too dark) sky sets the structure off beautifully. Beautiful light on the one above as well. Busy Street Corner shows a nice contrast with the blur of the moving cars, the pedestrians also moving and the sharp illuminated building and reflection of light in the wet cobblestones. Altar... light! Alleyway, strong 1 point perspective, light on cobblestones, darkened sky. All in all a very strong series... well done!

    1. Thank you very much! Yes I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro prior to this trip and have been experimenting with it. The camera(s) so far have been amazing, and the more I am learning from your class, the more fun I am having taking photographs and editing them.
